Eligibility
Scientists expert in geo-information science and/or earth observation are invited to carry out research at ITC as visiting researchers or post-doctoral research fellows. ITC's graduating PhD students may extend their research at ITC as post-doctoral research fellows subject to any appropriate approval (e.g., employer or other organization(s) with a legitimate interest in their return upon graduation).
Research topic
Visiting researchers and post-doctoral research fellows must carry out a research project embedded in one of the research themes of the ITC Research Programme. Descriptions of themes can be accessed from the outline of the Research Programme and details of research projects can be accessed from each of the theme descriptions. Visiting researchers and post-doctoral research fellows carry out their research in cooperation with a scientific counterpart in the research group theme of the research theme.
Application
Scientists interested in a period as visiting researcher or post-doctoral research fellow at ITC are advised first to send their cv, letter of interest / short research proposal outline and expected outcomes (e.g., publications) to the leader of the research group of the research theme in which they feel their research will fit. When the leader of the research group is satisfied that the research project is feasible and desirable within the framework of his/her research theme, he/she asks the ITC Personnel and Organization Department to apply for an entry visa and work permit.
Financial
Visiting researchers and post-doctoral research fellows must show evidence of having secured funding to meet the costs of travel to/from the Netherlands and the cost of living in the Netherlands, including compulsory health insurance. Accommodation for visiting scientists is available at ITC's International Hotel. For up-to-date rates please refer to the IIH rates and costs page. Other living costs are likely to be between € 500 and € 750 per month. Please note that ITC does not offer fellowships or similar funding for visiting researchers and post-doctoral research fellows.

In order to follow complete module(s), visiting researchers and post-doctoral research fellows must pay the appropriate tuition fees.
