The Executive Board of the University of Twente is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Mr. Dr. Ir. Jaap Zevenbergen as Vice Dean Education for the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC). Effective 1 October 2024, Jaap will succeed Victor Jetten, who has served one term in this capacity. Jaap’s initial appointment will be for two years, with the option for an extension until the conclusion of the dean’s term.
"Jaap is a seasoned leader with extensive experience in academic governance, having held roles such as program director, vice dean of education, and department chair," said Freek van der Meer, Dean of the ITC Faculty. "He is an eminent scientist with significant expertise in working with Official Development Assistance (ODA) countries, bringing a wealth of knowledge and insight to every position he holds. We are delighted to welcome him to the Faculty Board and look forward to his contributions."
Jaap Zevenbergen is currently a professor of Land Administration and Management at the University of Twente's ITC Faculty. He is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Land Use Policy. In addition to his academic roles, Jaap served as member of the program board for the Educational Leadership Program for the past eight years and continues to chair the University’s Examination Appeals Board.
Sharing his thoughts on the new appointment, Jaap Zevenbergen expressed his enthusiasm: "In the last weeks of my sabbatical, I feel honoured to be appointed Vice Dean Education at ITC. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues, both within the faculty and across the university, among them known and yet to meet ones, to strengthen and expand our education portfolio, ensuring a future-ready ITC and UT."
The ITC Faculty Board is composed of a dean and vice deans responsible for education, research, capacity development, and operational management, along with a student assessor in an advisory role. Together, the Board oversees the faculty’s academic, educational, and research activities, playing a key role in the overall management of the University.
The Executive Board of the University of Twente extends its best wishes to Jaap Zevenbergen in his new role and is confident in his ability to advance the faculty's educational mission, while also contributing to the broader educational innovations planned across the University.
