On Thursday 3 October, the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) at the University of Twente entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NL Space Campus. The agreement, signed during NL Space Week, positions ITC as the academic partner contributing its expertise in Earth observation and geo-information science to the NL Space Campus ecosystem.
As a partner of NL Space Campus, ITC will contribute to the growing Dutch space ecosystem, working alongside organisations like the Netherlands Space Office and industry leaders to drive forward Earth observation applications and shape the future of space innovations. The partnership focuses on using space data to make a positive difference in scientific, societal and commercial areas. Especially on the themes of Resource Security, Urban Futures, Disaster Resilience and Geo-AI.
Joint initiatives
Both partners will look for opportunities to work together on research projects that use satellite data and geo-information science to solve global problems. They will team up with space industry experts at NL Space Campus and combine ITC's research with the knowledge and needs of the space industry.
This partnership will foster talent development and knowledge sharing through joint initiatives like summer schools, hackathons, and hands-on projects in collaboration with industry leaders. It will also provide shared access to world-class facilities, enabling students and researchers to engage directly with the space industry.
NL Space Week
The MoU was signed during the NL Space Week organised by NL Space Campus in collaboration with ESA ESTEC. During this 9-day space extravaganza, there were unique experiences and events in exclusive locations in The Netherlands. The Faculty of ITC co-organised EO4IMPACT event during the two ‘Earth Observation days’. The signing of the MoU happened during the Networks & Drinks XL event on Thursday.
