ITC recently took part in the GEO midterm symposium, an annual gathering of the Group on Earth Observations, held in Geneva from 13-14 June. The symposium served as a platform for knowledge exchange, experience sharing, and collaboration within the GEO Work Programme community. Speakers and participants emphasized the importance of equitable access to Earth observations and the development of impactful information.
Under the theme "Stand out in the crowd: GEO Work Programme for Nature, People, and Planet," Joost Teuben from ITC moderated the Impact session during the symposium, contributing valuable insights.
Following the symposium, a two-day workshop on Open Data and Open Knowledge was organized by the Data Working Group, GEOSS Platform, and GEO Knowledge Hub teams. Held in Geneva from 15-16 June, the workshop explored topics such as Capacity Development, National GEOs, and ‘Youth: Efforts towards Open Knowledge’. Representatives from ITC, including Joost Teuben and Masoome Shariat, actively participated in engaging discussions on the implications of open data and open knowledge for individuals, organizations, and national GEOs, as well as the role of the new generation in open science.
ITC's involvement in these events showcases its commitment to advancing knowledge and collaboration in the field of Geo-information Science and Earth Observation and reinforces its position as an active participant in the GEO community.
