TechMed Challenges - Session 2 The challenges of climate on health

Climate change poses unprecedented challenges to public health worldwide. Increasing temperatures, extreme weather events, and changing environmental conditions directly affect human health, exacerbating risks such as heat-related illnesses and air pollution-related diseases. Beyond physical health impacts, climate change also influences mental health, social equity, and community resilience. Together, we aim to foster a collaborative dialogue among researchers, policymakers, healthcare professionals, and community leaders. By sharing knowledge, exploring effective solutions, and advocating for sustainable practices, we strive to protect and enhance public health in the face of climate change challenges.

Why is it interesting to participate

Update on Planetary Health as a Strategic Impact programme
In 2023, we started exploring how the University of Twente, together with its partners, can contribute to addressing the effects of climate change on health and reducing health-related waste streams and emissions. Despite the changing financial situation, we would like to explain how we will continue our activities. We are ready to explore new opportunities and work together effectively!

Exchange of expertise; sharing and connecting
Be inspired by keynote Dr Timo Falkenberg from the Institute for Hygiene and Public Health, University of Bonn. Afterwards, there will be space to connect with other researchers within the university and exchange ideas together.

Exploring funding opportunities
This first session of the TechMed Challenges on Planetary Health is mainly informative and inspiring, but certainly also interactive. During future TechMed Challenges, we will bring you up to speed on relevant funding options that align with this programme. Work together to determine which opportunities best suit your project, and take the first or next steps towards success.
