Arwu Shanghai Subject Ranking

Each year ShanghaiRanking releases the edition of their Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. This release contains rankings of universities in 54 subjects across Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences. In total, more than 4000 universities were ranked.

In the Shanghai subject ranking 2024 (Subject: engineering | remote sensing), ITC | University of Twente ranks 19th in the world, 3th in Europe and 1st in the Netherlands.

ARWU Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities

ARWU uses six objective indicators to rank world universities, including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate Analytics, number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and per capita performance of a university.

ECA Certificate for Quality in Programme Internationalization

The international flavour of the ITC Master’s in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation is highly appreciated by students and external officials alike. To prove the latter, our programme was awarded the ECA Certificate for Quality in Programme Internationalisation by the independent Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO), with internationalisation being labelled a “distinctive quality feature”.

QS World University Rankings

The QS World University Rankings currently follows about 1,600 universities worldwide. In the ranking of 2024, University of Twente is positioned in the range of the first 20%. Part of the ranking is based on hard data (faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, proportion of international students by faculty, Sustainability, Employment Outcomes and International Research Network). Another important part is based on data obtained from two large global surveys – one among academics and another among employers (academic reputation, employer reputation).

CWTS Leiden Rankings

The CWTS Leiden Ranking measures the scientific performance of 500 major universities worldwide. Using a sophisticated set of bibliometric indicators, the ranking aims to provide highly accurate measurements of the scientific impact of universities and of the involvement of universities in scientific collaboration. Compared with other university rankings, the Leiden Ranking offers more advanced indicators of scientific impact and collaboration and uses a more transparent methodology. The Leiden Ranking does not rely on subjective data obtained from reputational surveys or on data provided by universities themselves.

Times Higher Education Rankings

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE) are powered by Thomson Reuters. This global ranking assesses 1,904 universities from 108 countries based on five performance indicators: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.

Times Higher Education Impact Rankings

This ranking uses the same trusted and rigorous performance indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields: communication and media studies, politics and international studies (including development studies), sociology and geography.
