Career perspective

As a graduate of the Master’s in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation with a specialisation in Urban and Land Futures, you can look forward to an exciting career as an expert in urban planning, GIS/RS spatial data expert, cadastral/land management expert, to name but a few. Another option is to continue with a PhD. Or what about starting up your own business?

Type of degree

Upon completing the Master's with a specialisation in Urban and Land Futures, you will receive a Master’s degree in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation. Also, you can title yourself Master of Science (MSc). Your specialisation will be mentioned on your diploma supplement, highlighting your specialised knowledge and skills in the field of Urban and Land Futures.

Job opportunities

As a graduate of this specialisation, you have in-depth knowledge and skills related to urban planning, GIS/RS spatial data management,  cadastre/land management and their application in governmental and industrial organisations. You know how to handle multisource datasets using various digital techniques and tools for geospatial data acquisition and processing. With this expertise, you will be well-prepared to work at research institutes that focus on remote sensing technologies, aerospace engineering organisations, geospatial companies, and consulting firms, among others.

UT alumni with this specialisation currently work at various organisations in different roles, for example:
  • PhD researcher (different Universities)

Post-master opportunities

Instead of pursuing a professional career right after obtaining your Master’s degree, you can opt for an academic career by completing a PhD or a PDEng. A PDEng programme is more practically oriented and aligned with direct problem solving and addressing design needs of a particular industry whereas a PhD programme is more focused on research. You can follow both types of programmes at the Twente Graduate School (TGS).

CONTINUE AS A RESEARCHER: OBTAIN A PHD

Instead of pursuing a professional career right away after completing your Master’s degree, you can opt to follow a PhD programme at Twente Graduate School (TGS). This involves spending four years studying a particular research area in-depth at one of our research institutes. Obtaining your PhD earns you the title of Doctor (Dr).
