In 1967 the Centro Inter-Americano de fotointerpretacion (CIAF) was foundedby Presidential Decree. The ITC was responsible for introducing and implementing the technologies of aerialphotography and other remote-sensing imagery. It helped the CIAF to set up its trainings programs and assisted with research and consultation for modern mapping.
Mr Alvaro Gonzalez Fletcher (MSc) was appointed First director.
On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of CIAF in 1982 the Colombian government presented the ITC with the Silver Cross of the Order of Boyaca (Gran Cruz de Plata de Orden de Boyaca). The ITC was granded this most prestigeous of Colombian decorations for its important role in the development of CIAF. (Taken from "60 years of ITC", Nil Disco (2010), p42-43)
