Purpose of observation:
The Twente soil moisture & temperature monitoring was originally developed for the calibration and validation of satellite-based soil moisture products. It served this function for the ESA’s (European Space Agency) Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite and NASA’s Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) satellite.
