ITC hosts UDESC Visiting Scientist

PGM-ITC is hosting Guilherme Braghirolli, currently a PhD candidate from the Postgraduate Program in Territorial Planning and Socio-environmental Development (PPGPLAN) at the State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC) as visiting scientist. Guilherme is at ITC from September 2024 to March 2025.

This experience is not only relevant for his academic career, but also brought significant contributions to the PPGPLAN and his own personal and scientific development. Being at a renowned university like the ITC offers Guilherme an environment of excellence in the area of Geoinformation and Earth observation technologies. During his stay, he connects to highly qualified professors, advanced technologies and cutting-edge methodologies, which enriched his research and expanded his technical and scientific skills. Under the guidance of the renowned Dr. Mila Koeva, Guilherme received valuable contributions for his doctoral thesis, entitled: “Methodology for Quantifying Losses in Solar Energy Generation Caused by Shading of Adjacent Buildings”, incorporating ideas, methodologies and innovations that raised the quality of his research.

Prof. Oliveira also stresses that this exchange at the University of Twente opened doors to new scientific and academic connections with researchers from different countries, strengthening international collaboration networks. Working with different cultures also provided Guilherme with a rich experience of cultural immersion, broadening his worldview and positively impacting his personal and professional development.

This experience also strengthened the institutional ties between the Geoprocessing Laboratory (GeoLab) of UDESC and the researchers of ITC, stimulating future collaborations and consolidating international partnerships, under the PLUS Hub Brazil umbrella, at PGM. Prof. Oliveira, who also coordinates the GeoLab, highlights that the academic trajectory of student Guilherme Braghirolli strengthens the positive impact of exchange activities, which contribute significantly to stimulating creativity, scientific curiosity and promoting the sharing of advanced knowledge.

Finally, the international experience allowed Guilherme to develop interpersonal skills essential in a globalized world, such as intercultural communication and teamwork with people from different backgrounds. These learnings are a lasting legacy of this experience, which represents not only an academic milestone, but also personal growth.
