Together with our partners, the Centre for Disaster Resilience (CDR) will focus on a synergetic and common effort to increase the well-being and the global sustainable growth by significantly decreasing disaster risk. We do this through fundamental, interdisciplinary and applied research, dissemination, education and training, international cooperation, and advisory services.

IRDR Centre of Excellence

ITC is one of its International Centers of Excellence within the IRDR

The Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) is a decade-long research programme co-sponsored by the International Science Council, by the International Council for Science (ICSU), the International Social Science Council (ISSC), and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). It is a global, multi-disciplinary approach to dealing with the challenges brought by natural disasters, mitigating their impacts, and improving related policy-making mechanisms.

The integrated research on disaster risk (IRDR) consortium promotes a global, multi-disciplinary approach to dealing with the challenges brought by natural disasters, mitigating their impacts, and improving related policy-making mechanisms.

IRDR International Centres of Excellence (ICoEs), established through the IRDR Scientific Committee (SC) and the relevant National Committee (NC), are aimed to provide regional and research foci for the IRDR programme. ICoE research programmes will embody an integrated approach to disaster risk reduction that directly contributes to the ICSU/IRDR Science Plan for Integrated Research on Disaster Risk.

UNU-DGIM 

From 2005-2015  ITC has been a Centre of Excellence under the United Nations University. During this period the ITC School on Disaster Geo-Information Management was active. The overall objective of the UNU-ITC School for Disaster Geo-Information Management was to support capacity building of organizations in developing countries through training of individuals in the collection, management, analysis and dissemination of spatial information before, during and after disaster events, in order to reduce the impacts of natural and related environmental and technological hazards.
