This workshop, organized by the Center of Expertise in Big Geodata Science (CRIB), aims to introduce the use of Docker containers with the goal of using them for modern, scalable computational workflows. Such workflows are useful for ensuring reproducible research outputs. The participants will learn the fundamentals of containers, practice essential Docker commands, and gain hands-on experience in building and managing Docker images and containers.
The workshop is based on the Carpenty Incubator course "Reproducible Computational Environments Using Containers: Introduction to Docker" and covers the following aspects:
- Introduction to containerization
- Usage of Docker command line
- Running the containers
- Creating the containers and Dockerfiles
- Managing the containers on your local system
Participants must have access to a computer with a Mac, Linux, or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc.) that they have administrative privileges on. They should have a running Docker installation (see the setup instructions for installation).
