In this training workshop, organized by the Center of Expertise in Big Geodata Science (CRIB), participants will embark on a journey through the fundamentals of geospatial data analysis using R. With its excellent statistical capabilities and a huge package ecosystem, R supports transparent data analysis workflows with an emphasize on reproducible research. Geospatial R packages, such as sf, raster, and leaflet, enable complex geospatial studies and striking visualizations that facilitate getting insights from geospatial datasets. Join us to learn how to use R to access, analyze, and visualize spatial data!
The workshop covers the following aspects:
- Opening, manipulating, and plotting vector and raster spatial data.
- Handling spatial metadata and Coordinate Reference Systems.
- Reprojecting spatial data and analyzing raster time series.
Participants must have access to a computer with a Mac, Linux, or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc.) that they have administrative privileges on. They should have a few specific software packages installed, see the setup instructions for the details.
Date
21-22 August 2024 (One and a half day training)
Venue
ITC Building, Room LA 2301
Hallenweg 8, 7522 NH Enschede
Prerequisites
The participants do not need prior knowledge of the R packages this workshop teaches. However, we expect the participants to have a working knowledge of R and a basic understanding of geospatial data types and formats.
Registration
Registration is required to attend the workshop, which is open to all UT staff and students.
The capacity is limited to 25 people. In case of more registrations, the participants will be selected considering the balance between staff and students with a priority to ITC staff and students.
